STRANGE BY NATURE: TARDIGRADES

Educational animated video for Seattle Central Creative Academy

By Wynn Barnard and Amy Ray

This quirky animated video explains Tardigrades (also known as Water Bears or Moss Piglets) to a middle school audience. The animation is designed to serve as a fun introduction to a science unit on water and build intrigue in nature's oddities. I created all animation and visual assets after 1:09, as well as the Tardigrade illustration and walk cycle used throughout the video.

Challenge
Create a short, animated explainer video for a middle school audience introducing them to a topic they might not otherwise find interesting. Create something that could be extended into a series.

Solution:

Our solution is concise, engaging, and a little quirky and humorous while remaining informative. A lot of information is packed into a short video, but because we represented everything with fun animations, it’s accessible to a middle school audience as well as anyone with or without a science background. We nested it under the aspirational brand "Strange by Nature," a series on nature's oddities. We hope to create another video in the near future!
